Expert help when you need it

Ian Jones is a specialist in education law, an experienced training provider and a Chair of Governors. With 25 years of experience as a barrister, Ian brings a detailed understanding of how schools work to his advice. Whether you need help with structural changes or reviewing your policies and procedures, preparing for admission appeals or dealing with parental disputes, Ian will give you practical, expert advice to suit your needs and budget.

For schools and academies needing reliable access to legal advice, Ian provides an Education Law Annual Service. This includes two on-site training sessions for your school, up to 30 minutes of advice on all new matters (excluding academy conversion & employment/HR law) and a reduced rate for further work throughout the year.

Training & Consultancy

Ian regularly provides training to schools, academies, local authorities and appeal panels on a wide range of education law matters. As with his education law advice, Ian's training seminars are informed by his practical school experience, and are consistently rated as Outstanding in client feedback. Training is provided on-site at your school or other venue, and can be provided at a time and budget to suit your needs. Ian has particular experience of school admission appeals, having clerked or appeared as a representative at many hundreds of appeals spanning over a decade. Ian frequently appears on TV & radio and in the press to discuss school admissions, and regularly provides admission appeal panel training throughout England & Wales.

Ian is also in demand to provide training for schools on the new GDPR & Data Protection laws, either as detailed training for managers or as whole school GDPR awareness training. Ian also offers a "Data Protection Officer Service", acting as the Data Protection Officer for schools who might otherwise struggle to appoint a suitable DPO.

Other areas of consultancy work include academy conversion or amalgamation, working alongside solicitors and other professionals to provide education law input and project support as necessary.

Thank you for your work in the matter of our merger, on behalf of the Board of Governors. I found your explanations clear and easy to understand...
